i once got an organic salad from the co-op that was across the street from my office at that time. i ate all but 2 bites of it when i saw a GIGANTIC, black and green, stripey, ugly caterpillar in the bottom of the plastic bowl. i shut the bowl's lid on him, then saw i still had a few bites of goat cheese and greens left, so i reopened it and finished the salad. i then put the lid back on

It's a lady bug. I was eating some kale from Whole Foods when I bit down on something hard. It was a lady bug shell. I took my sausage finger fished it out and continued chomping. After I was done, I photographed the carcass for posterity (not for potential lawsuit bc whole foods and I are like that *crossing fingers*)

I think y'all did the right thing about the salad. I definitely wouldn't have made a big deal about it but it's appropriate for you to not have paid. Ditto Amber re: a roach. I would have flipped my shit if I saw a roach.

Ladybugs are cute. I would be amused but not necessarily grossed out. However, I'd be concerned that there might be other ladybugs lurking and would either search my salad carefully or just get something else.

to me, lady bugs and little green worms aren't so much a big deal - they're not easily detectable, they don't wash off easily, and they don't cause to much of mess. (not a sign of uncleanliness) But I know bugs don't bother me as much as others.

I'll echo Dipitie - I sometimes find little stragglers on the lettuce I buy from the grocery store. To me, lady bug = normal fauna that can be found on fruits/veggies while cockroach = dirty ass kitchen. I'd still would tell the server about it though.
