Broken Instrument

My camera is broken.  I am sad about it.  I haven't gotten it fixed yet.  I've been too lazy to go to the store again.

I went when my camera first broke, and the camera guy suggested that I go home and find my proof of purchase, so I wouldn't have to pay for repairs.  Of course, when I went home and searched for my documentation, I discovered the warranty was no good anymore.  It's going to cost $300-$400 to fix my camera and another trip to the store.  And then it's going to take another month for the store to send it to the people who actually fix cameras.

I'm unmotivated to start this whole process.

I bought a new point-and-shoot camera.  It's pretty good.  I like it.

It's weird taking pictures with just a point-and-shoot, though.  I miss holding a gigantic camera.

But, apparently, I don't miss holding a gigantic camera enough to drive to the store and bring my broken gigantic camera to get it fixed for $300-$400.

I still snap a lot of photos.  Where are they?  Trapped on SD cards.  Shelved away in haphazardly labeled folders on my laptop.  Hidden.  Unused.  Nowhere.

Old habits die hard.  I still feel compelled to record everything, even if I don't publish.

  1. Oh no, poor camera and poor you! I am more surprised by the 1 month+ required than the amount of money. My P&S needs at least a cleaning and possibly some kind of repair, but I haven't gotten motivated to send it in either, especially since they told me it would take 10 days just to diagnose it, so I can somewhat relate.

    1. It's a big deal. The guy at the store said he'd never seen anything like this. Wah wah.

    1. My point-and-shoot is so good for a point-and-shoot, but we all know that no point-and-shoot can compare with a DSLR. Sad.

  3. Is it the camera that is broken or the lens? If you're still using your old camera, I'd say just get a new one. It'd only be a little more than the cost of those repairs. Time for an upgrade!

    1. It's my D7000. I got it in 2012. All of my lenses are fine.

You can't possibly think I don't know the difference between a body and a lens, right?

  4. Ha! No. I just didn't know if you got a new one. I don't always refer to my camera and my lens as separate. I only have one lens so if either were broken, I can't use my camera anyway and would just say my camera is broken.
