Flatscreens, Old People, and Kids: Baccali

Baccali Cafe & Rotisserie (245 W. Valley Blvd., Alhambra) is your typical Hong Kong cafe. Don't know what that is? It's American and European food made by Chinese people. There are some regular Chinese dishes on the menu, too.

I asked my local food blogosphere to suggest a place where my husband could watch the Lakers, my father-in-law could tolerate the food, and my niece could be loud. Wandering Chopsticks saved the day with this recommendation.

Thai tea with tapioca and coffee with tapioca ($2.75 each).

Cutlet sole fillet with Baccali chicken ($13.95).

Pan-fried lobster udon ($13.95).

Kid's meal -- baked ham macaroni and French fries ($5.75).

At best, the food is slightly better than mediocre, but the prices are reasonable, and service is speedy. Great find for our extended family.

  1. We have one Hong Kong cafe here, but because of the meh reviews, I've yet to try it.

  2. I love HK cafes! The food is generally not great, but they remind me of home.

  3. A place that involves children and TVs usually sounds terrible but that food actually looks pretty good.
