The Food of My Peeps: Pa Pa Walk

Pa Pa Walk (227 W. Valley Blvd., San Gabriel) is not a new find. It's one of our go-to places for Taiwanese food. But this was the first time I had my real camera with me here, so I re-documented this old favorite during a visit with three friends.

Honey lemon juice ($3.50) and watermelon juice ($3.50). Fresh!

Oyster omelet ($5.75).

For my cohorts, not for me. I'm not a fan, but they loved it.

Fried pork chop rice ($5.95).

A classic. A staple. Familiar. Welcoming.

Fried green onion pancake ($4.50).

Always good, even when bad.

Pan-fried turnip cake ($4.50).

A must-have here. I love edible containers. This one is fried!

Stinky tofu ($5.25).

Only one friend and I ate this. The other two couldn't take it. Do you dare try this? You should. It's yummy.

Pan-fried miso fish ($6.75).

Our most "healthy" dish during this meal. Very tasty.

Potstickers ($5.95).

Pretty run-of-the-mill, but they're fried, so you'll like them anyway.

Spicy wonton ($4.95).

I adore this little bowl. Just enough spice. Just enough peanut dust.

Be sure to end your meal with a Snowy! What is a Snowy? It's very finely shaved ice. A regular brown sugar shaved ice with your choice of five toppings costs $6.00. The Snowy version costs $8.50.

We got the Snowy with red beans, green (mung) beans, boba, rice balls, and condensed milk. I prefer the fine texture of the Snowy, so I'm willing to pay a little more for it.

Is this the best Taiwanese food you'll ever have? No. But I love this place anyway. It's fast. It's cheap. It's satisfying.

  1. I've never actually been to a Taiwanese restaurant. All my Taiwanese food experience is limited to the homemade variety.

  2. I remember when you first blogged about Pa Pa Walk. I had to try the fried soup ASAP. I still dream of it. Mmmmm.

That fried pork chop may steal my attention away though ...

  5. I've never had taiwanese food. I have located 2 taiwanese restaurants on Yelp so I'm going to try one. I love the soup in a fried container.

  7. Love the coffin bread here, but everything else were pretty "so-so" for me. I think I prefer Sin Ba La more in Arcadia.
