I Hope They're Somebody's Initials

Every time we go to Green Zone, we swear that we're going to try one of the other restaurants in the strip mall, but we never do. It's hard to pass up the passion fruit iced tea.

But we finally broke our habit this week and set foot into B.J. Tofu House (534 E. Valley Avenue, San Gabriel).

The place could definitely use a makeover, but the prices were palatable.

Complimentary tea. If you want it hot, your server will put it in the microwave.

You can get non-tofu dishes if you like. See? That's Bax's chicken bulgogi.

My dumpling soon tofu was surprisingly good. I didn't have high expectations.

Even the rice with corn was sort of tasty. I think must've been hungry.

This typical Korean post-meal gum lost its charm after all of 10 seconds.

Am I happy to have tried B.J. Tofu? Yes. Decent food for a decent price. The ambiance was terrible, though. I felt like I was eating in a dingy storage closet.

  1. You are far too classy for dingy storage closets.

  2. Thanks for a good chuckle on a Saturday morning! How the heck do you manage to find all these holes in the wall? I love Korean food but there isn't much around where I live.

  5. Bah! I don't think I could go back to a place that was like eating in a storage closet, even if the food was good. That's what take out is for.

  8. hm, the pajun looks...not so good. i love me my holes in the wall, but this one looks particularly not-so-nice.

the bear and i have a friend named "BJ," although it's not his legal name nor does it resemble his legal name in the least bit. no one in his family can remember where the nickname came from or when exactly and who exactly started calling him that. hm.

  12. I love stinky tofu, so I'm definitely trying Ding's! The problem will be conning my non-Taiwanese co-workers into going with me.... ;)

  14. The name of that gum sounds like a porn star or stripper's name.
