It Was a Dark and Stormy Night

And on this dark and stormy night, I planned to meet two mysterious strangers. The original plan was foiled...by a man who possibly took a reservation without having a solid grasp of English. Drat!

But this didn't stop us from having a great time.

Tonight, Jane18 and venndiagram braved the rain to meet tater, Wan, and me for dinner. We ended up going to the always reliable Beverly Soon Tofu.

I was really excited to meet these two lovely ladies. I enjoy reading their posts, and I just had a good feeling about them from the very beginning. I don't have many friends on the L.A. Knot board anymore, and it's refreshing to encounter two new posters with brains and a good sense of humor.

It turns out both Jane and venn read our blogs, so they knew a lot about us already! Some people might be weirded out by this, but I'm not. I love it! Yeah! We had so much fun talking about all sorts of things, and I felt quite at ease with both girls and gab-gab-gabbed away.

Nothing hits the spot on a cold rainy day like a piping hot bowl of Korean tofu. Amongst the panchan, the cold tofu and cucumber dishes were my favorite.

I also had a side of galbi. I forgot to take a pic, but I did snap a photo of the bone I dropped on the ground. I don't know why, but I kept dropping things all night. Klutzo.

After a discussion about how easily our love is bought with gifts of food, venn pulled out little Hello Kitty fruit snacks for all of us. So funny!

Mr. Monkey ate his pack immediately when I got home. To make his eating interactive, he quizzed me as to the identity of each piece.

"What's this?"
"That's Hello Kitty."
"What's this?"
"That's My Melody."
"What's this?"
"Really? You're asking me what that is? It's a bow, you moron."

Then he decided that was the end of the game. It's clear who the nice one is in this marriage. (Hint: It's not me!)

Upon receiving the usual melon gum, I decided I needed a group picture. We gawked around very unsubtly until another restaurant patron kindly offered to play photographer. I'm so persuasive that I don't even need to address people directly. Ha!

The results.

venn was far yellower and two-dimensional than I'd anticipated. Who knew someone could have a bigger, rounder head than yours truly?

What a nice end to a nice (but boring) day at work!

What was work like today? Four hours consisted of listening to spiels about my new company's history and a recitation of our benefits options and 401k stuff.

The highlight of the training session was Company Jeopardy! My team won, of course. Would you expect anything less? If I weren't me, I'd hate me. I was seriously shrieking at the top of my lungs, "We'll make it a true daily double!" And it was all over after that. The game ended, and we had a five-figure score. Second place was at a mere 600.

And I didn't even pay that much attention during the preceding presentation. It's amazing how competition motivates me. Kinda like how I did my crazy summaries just to look better than my co-worker last week. Evil. Just evil.

Well, that was quite the aside. I'm bringing you back now to the dark and stormy night.

'Twas such a pleasure meeting you both, venn and Jane. Thanks for being troopers, making the sloshy trek, dealing with our loud cackling, and braving the dirty looks we got from that old lady because we were so loud. I hope the next time we meet, I won't tell you to go to a restaurant that is having a private party. I can't believe that this has happened to me twice now. I'm a crappy planner.

Even so, I aim to do another blog party soon. January, folks. Anybody up for this?
